When your Audacity production is complete, you will need to export it to .mp3 format. This is the popular digital music format that is compatible with SoundSlides and various portable media devices.
Audacity requires that you download the external LAME MP3 encoder, which you can download for free:
DOWNLOAD LAME MP3 ENCODER
If you need more info on this encoder, you can find it here.
Once it is downloaded, you need to "unzip" it by opening the folder and double-clicking on the "lame" file. A new folder will appear with the unzipped files that you will need. Remember the location on your computer where this is located because you will need to navigate to it the first time you aim to export a file to MP3.
When your production is ready for exporting to MP3, select:
File>Export as MP3
A pop-up window will appear asking you to name your file. Once you do that, a warning window will appear that asks you to locate the lame_enc.dll encoder file that you just downloaded. Click "Yes" and then navigate to the Lame MP3 folder (where the lame_enc.dll file is located). Then confirm the location by clicking yes and your production will export to an .mp3 file.
You only have to go through this process the first time you export to .mp3. After this, it will remember where your .mp3 encoder is and you will simply be able to "Export to MP3" when you are ready to do so.
